Inspired by the summer when my grandson and I grew pumpkins in a teeny patch in our garden, and in the autumn reaped a minute but joyful harvest. I was also thrilled to see the poem published in The People’s Friend last year.

Good All-Rounder

Pumpkin seeds scattered in spring,
Tender shoots grow, and new life begins.
Sprinkle with plant food and water plenty,
Yellow flowers appear, and bees pollinate gently.

In summer, giant seedpods start to develop,
Over time, young pumpkins ripen and swell up.
Hay is needed to prop them off the ground,
Until they are bright orange, plump, and round.

For autumn, they make Halloween lanterns, so bright,
Or turned into spiced soup – a culinary delight,
Adding pizzazz to Harvest Festival displays,
Whatever their purpose – pumpkins cheer up winter days!

PS. I wrote a blog post about the fun we had growing them: Pumpkin Inspiration. I hope you enjoy reading it.
